We hear in the Gospel, among many things, Jesus’s words on divorce. In the first chapter of Matthew’s Gospel after the genealogy of Jesus we hear the story about when Joseph and Mary were engaged and how he planned to quietly divorce her because she had become pregnant but they had not been together. Joseph could have had her stoned as outlined in Leviticus (20:10-12) by Moses.
The Pharisees’s answer to the divorce question also goes back to Moses but Jesus goes back to the word of His Father in Genesis, that the two should become one flesh and no one may separate.
Finally Jesus brings the children close because they are a product of a holy marriage, marriage itself then becomes an expression of the kingdom.
