Imagining Sunday’s Gospel

This passage seems to act as a bridge between the mission of the twelve, the story within a story of the death of John the Baptist and the feeding of the five thousand.

Looking for a little peace and quiet in a deserted place, they found the lost sheep of Israel (as described in the same story in Matthew 10:6).

In Mark, Jesus does not react immediately to the death of John the Baptist. It is, again a story within a story starting with our reading from last week and ending with the feeding of the five thousand.

We cannot escape the reference of Jesus as the shepard looking after his sheep. Also, Jesus will be in an out of boats before and after the feeding of the 5000. As the shepard, Jesus’ heart was moved with pity for them.

As you find your away place, keep in mind those who wander away from and around their faith.
