This psalm speaks of silver being refined seven times. When silver (and gold for that matter) are heated to the point of melting, the impurities rise to the top. A practiced silversmith can skim the impurities off and leave the pure silver. This is a metaphor for God purifying us by trying us in the fire to rid us of our impurities.
Examining our trials for signs of God’s handiwork is my prayer today.
