Psalm 6 is the first of the seven penitential Psalms, good for expressing remorse for transgressions and to seek God’s mercy.
The psalm mentions Sheol, which has an interesting history. There seems to be a different take on Sheol depending on when in history it shows up. As different languages and cultures merge, it morphs even more. Sheol had some cross pollination with the Greek Hades, who was more a mythological person rather than the dwelling place for some of the dead. So we also have the netherworld, abode of the dead and the abyss.
Keeping away from evil puts one in a good disposition and psalm 6 helps put your prayer in a good position to avoid Sheol.
