For the Third Sunday in Ordinary time we hear of John the Baptist’s arrest and Jesus kicking off his public ministry by proclaiming that the kingdom of God is at hand.
Jesus then nets some disciples at the waterfront of the sea of Galilee. Peter, Andrew, James and John most likely fished for tilapia now sometimes called St Peter’s fish (from an episode in the Gospel where Jesus has Peter draw a coin from the mouth of a fish).
You hear that the fisherman on Galilee fished at night because the fish cannot see the nets then. Also to keep your clothes from being ruined, you fished “lightly clad” like we hear near the end of John’s Gospel.
So, to proclaim the kingdom of God as fishers of men, follow Jesus as we repent and believe in the gospel.
